Visit in the morning when the light hits the front pylons directly. The optional sound and light show in the evening is magical with the temple reflected in the water.
Nubian Village Visit
The Nubian villages on the West Bank are worth the boat trip — houses are painted in bright colours with crocodile motifs. You can visit a Nubian family home, try traditional bread, and see crocodiles (kept as pets). The Nubian Museum in Aswan is excellent for understanding Nubian history and culture.
Abu Simbel Tip
Abu Simbel is an optional 3 AM start (4-hour drive each way) but absolutely worth it.
